WYSA Pine Tree League Position Statement/Policy

The Windham Youth Soccer Association encourages players to participate in community activities and sports throughout the year.

We support players and volunteers who show a continued interest in playing soccer during winter and spring seasons throughout Southern Maine.   While WYSA does not administer winter indoor teams, WYSA will provide a structure for Pine Tree League teams representing Windham Youth Soccer Association to play in the spring, in addition to its Spring Recreational League.

This structure will include a league coordinator, team coach, roster registration, spring practice time, and fields for home games, as fields allow for U12 and under teams.   We will attempt to provide fields for U13 and up, but cannot guarantee that this would be possible.   WYSA will not provide full uniforms, but will provide shirts, as our stock will allow, for teams.   Cost for a WYSA Pine Tree League is a per team cost.    This will include the fees payable to Soccer Maine for each team, WYSA player registration, along with league administration, field use, field maintenance, referee and assignor fees, scheduling, and use of uniform shirts.   Team costs will be determined on a yearly basis.

Team coaches are responsible for payment to referees directly at their games, monies to be given to coaches from team fee.   Cost for referees is approximately $25/game for each U9 and U10 team, $50/game for each U11 and U12 team, and $60 per game for each U13 and older team.   This cost is split with the opposing team, with the home team responsible for payment at game time.   There will be 8 league-scheduled games in the Pine Tree League spring season, taking place on Sundays.

WYSA believes that in-season sports come first, and that scheduled practice time for Pine Tree League teams cannot be made mandatory for players participating in in-season sports.   This is the same position taken by Soccer Maine.

Players who choose to play Pine Tree League soccer need to be registered with Soccer Maine.   If you have played in WYSA Fall Recreational and Travel Leagues the past year, you are already registered with Soccer Maine, and this registration is valid through August 31 st of the following year.   If you have not, a fee for the player in the amount of $13, payable to Soccer Maine will be required.

Coaches must have an E license or U10 module to coach in the Pine Tree League.   The selection of a Pine Tree League team is controlled by the licensed coach, and therefore is not representing WYSA policies on team selection for the fall travel season in any way.   WYSA urges players, parents and coaches to keep spring games fun and in perspective.   The more fun players have, the more likely they will continue to enjoy the great sport of soccer.

Note:   While participation in off-season play may improve a player's overall skill and ability, it does not impact selection for a position on a Windham Youth Soccer Association Fall Travel team for the upcoming season.   Selections for WYSA's Fall Travel Program are based on the assessments held prior to the start of the travel season.
